Road to Online Success : Be Unique

Starting from today I will start my series of postings on the Road to Online Success that I’ve carried on practicing for all this while. I hope what I’m going to share will provide some understanding of how some people do very well online and some don’t.

Let start of by discussing the importance of being unique. We are all unique in certain special way, but most of us have been taught, to comply with so called rules and standards seem to be set by our society. We’re informed not to stick our necks out too far and not to put up too much noise in case we are noticed.

In Malaysia we have the syndrome, always threatening for individuals who dare to succeed. Our culture is that people will try to chop your strive off if you improve too big. Yet ironically, society rewards uniqueness in skills and talents in sport, education and politic. These two things, the rewards on one hand and the syndrome on the other, do not look to belong together. But it makes sense when you come to find that being unique leads to go against the preference and risk sticking your neck out. People who succeed have to be hardy and courageous to go against the preference, to be unique in the face of pressure. In our society there are many barriers to being unique. This is one basis why society respects people that has uniqueness qualities.

Your uniqueness is what makes you stand out. It’s what affects people to decide you rather than another person to deal with.

What is unique about you or about your business? What is it that leads your arena different? In most cases to be unique is not that much difficult as we might think. It can start from your own unique photo to identify your site, the topic that you choose to discuss, the way you write your post or even your website design. You just need to find it, swell it, and use it most every day. Successful people know the power of uniqueness and make sure they use it.
